What is the temporo-mandibular click
When talking, eating or yawning: these are the cases in which the famous mandibular click arise, a symptom of an inflammatory pathology involving the temporomandibular joint. We are talking about a problem that is very often neglected and to which, on the other hand, much attention should be paid. In fact it can degenerate into different and annoying disorders such as headaches, difficulty in chewing or even blocking the jaw.
The causes of the mandibular click
The possible causes related to the mandibular clink are different, among the most common ones we can highlight: the bruxism – mainly nocturnal disorder that involves involuntary movements of the jaw – and cases of malocclusion, or the incorrect alignment that naturally should be created between the teeth of the upper arch and the lower one. There are also other trigger factors such as accidents or traumas, as well as otitis and mumps.
Who you should contact
For this problem it is preferable to contact a specialist in orthodontics, a discipline that mainly deals with the position of the dental arches and the functions of the temporomandibular joint. Usually at the first visit it is already possible to identify the problem and start a therapy. Magnetic resonance imaging is suggested only in the most problematic cases, when a more in-depth investigation is needed.
Check your dental occlusion
As already mentioned one of the possible causes of this disorder can be a bad dental occlusion. Thanks to Teethan you can evaluate your occlusal status in just 3 minutes, through a quick, painless and non-invasive examination.
